When you least expect it…

Beaten, bruised and robbed, lying in a ditch is a man. He was on his way to find a job. People walked by him. Others passed on the other side of the street. No one stopped; no one asked if he was o.k. They kept walking, till one person stopped.

This man picked up the beaten guy and cleaned the dirt off of him. He took him to a hospital. He cared enough to stay by his bedside, waiting for the o.k. from the doctors. He made sure that he was going to live. He paid for the stay at the hospital and than went on his way. The man that was beaten was amazed!

This guy really cared about me. I don’t even know him and he took care of me. How incredible is that?

Caring for someone when it doesn’t benefit you? How do you do that? Is that possible?

Jesus gave us the perfect example in Matthew 25:35-40.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.

So the next time you pass someone in need, take the time to care. Your kindness reaches out beyond yourself. Your reward is heavenly.
