STORMS: Testimonies in Disguise

Hi 👋 My name is Dorcas Oluwadamilola Aboderin, a first class graduate of Chemical Engineering from Covenant University. I’m a car accident survivor to the glory of God. The accident killed my eldest brother, my mentor, and three friends. These were my storms…

Overtime, the Holy Spirit exposed me to messages as regards the beauty of faith in times of trials. I received comfort from Him, as He explained 2 Corinthians 1:4. He comforts us in our troubles, so we can comfort others going through challenging seasons with the comfort we ourselves have received from Him, and help them rest on His word entirely. I was led to share my Storm Experience Testimony of Grace in my first book, titled:

S.T.O.R.M.S: Testimonies in Disguise (In my Pain, I found Purpose).”

“Can I write a book?” was the weird question I asked God when the nudge to write came up. Please don’t get me wrong; I really love writing. Sometimes I take down a few notes of inspirations I get during my quiet time with the Holy Spirit. My heart finds joy in sharing some with family and close friends, with my diary, or on my social media platforms; I just never imagined ‘book writing’ was my thing.

The first few months before this nudge dropped in my heart, I was involved in a car crash. I recovered from coma and saw myself asking God lots of ‘why-questions’; I almost lost my faith in Him. In my book, I shared a glimpse of my experience, or “storms” as I like to call them. However, you can find the full story here.

The major theme of the book is this:

Everything you’ve ever been through, the pain you experienced that made you question if God can still be trusted, those trying situations, rejection and disqualification that brought tears to your eyes, is actually a set up for your next best season of grace, impact, and testimony. God didn’t cause it, but He’s absolutely aware! He’s so intentional with His children. He has given us a promise: to turn those ashes into something beautiful, to give us the oil of Joy in place of mourning, to wear us the garment of praise that would wipe out every spirit of heaviness, all for His own glory (Isaiah 61:3 paraphrased).

Before I heard the title of this book in my Spirit, I had lots of assumptions about faith. The Holy Spirit broke it down to me this way: As long as you are God’s child, Christ remains Lord over all that concerns your life, no matter how it feels or looks like. Those storms are a set-up for you to testify like Paul did;

‘Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me…for when I am weak, then I am strong’ 2 Corinthians 12:9, (NIV).

Paul didn’t stop there! He went further to make a profound statement while in prison. When it felt like the torment and persecution he experienced preaching the gospel would make him give up, he rather said; “I want you to know, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel” Philippians 1:12, (NIV).

That’s faith! Our faith in God is the victory that overcomes this world and its drama (1 John 5:4). Life makes no sense at all without God. Everyone, and I mean every single person, needs this God, with or without trials. Now relating it to the trials and pains we occasionally experience on earth; it’s a reminder that this earth is just a temporal home; heaven at last should be in view. Only by grace, through faith, can a man receive strength to give God praise through that storm and let the devil know that what he meant for evil, God is turning it around for our good and making us a proof of His ever-faithful promises and power!

‘The challenges we go through in life are there to refine us to be who God wants us to be today. We might not understand how or when the turnaround will come, but it will surely come – Mrs. Folorunsho-Alakija.

I’m excited and grateful to God for this book, and I hope you’d get a copy for yourself. I believe that as you read and flip through every page, the Holy Spirit flows through the words of this book, ignites your heart in God’s love, and pours the understanding of His word inside of you as He enlightens the eyes of your heart and fills you with the knowledge of His will.

That’s my greatest joy: to see the whole world surrender to God’s Word, grow in their knowledge of Christ, and be propelled to live in the fullness of Faith in God. This, to me, is far more than all the acquisitions of this world put together.

Our father loves you so much, and so do I!
