Last weekend a large farm outside Bloemfontein was prepared. For arguably the biggest prayer meeting in modern day history: “It’s Time”.
Over one million people had walked, cycled, and taken every available means of transport to be present before the Lord on 22nd April 2017. It was hard to believe that people came from far and wide to join hands together for the nation of South Africa, at this time.
The Lord hears the cry of His people
In the book of Exodus 3, we read that Moses stumbled across a burning bush and had an awesome encounter with God. God tells him that He has heard the cry of the people of Israel. Who were slaves in Egypt, and He wanted to rescue them. Shortly before the “It’s Time” event, CBN South Africa had the opportunity to interview Angus Buchan. Who is the man behind this unprecedented gathering. He explained to us that God “interrupted his quiet time one day” to tell him, “It is time”.
If we are honest about the current state of affairs in South Africa, most of us would agree that significant positive change is needed. Maybe even the kind that was needed to set the Israelites free from slavery in Egypt. The story of Moses is an encouraging reminder to us that God hears the cries of His people. Whether they lived 2000 years ago or in this present day. Time isn’t an issue with our God, because He never changes. He not only heard cries of the Israelites but He cares and wants to move in and breathe life. Just as we believe He could today.
It’s time to continue to pray for SA
It was awesome to be part of the ‘It Is Time’ Prayer Meeting. And one question I feel many people might be asking is: what happens next? And how can we be part of what God is wanting to do for the nation?
I would like to encourage you that it is still time! The question to ask yourself, (whether it was in your capacity or desire to attend the prayer meeting or not) is, Do I trust God for big things in this significant season for South Africa? And how could we continue to pray for SA?
Angus Buchan, like Moses, was simply a vessel that God called to proclaim a message of courage and hope to a nation. All he needed in response to the call was obedience and some serious faith! Jesus tells us in the Gospel of Matthew 17:20 that “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
We all have our moments of doubt and they can come very easily to us. Even Moses did, at first, when his response to God was “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” in Exodus 3:11. However, I encourage you to remember the response God has to this just a few chapters later in Exodus 33 where He comforts Moses in saying that “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” in Exodus 33:14.
