As we approach a fresh start and a New Year, we may choose to reflect on the year that has just past. Maybe you also decide to set some new goals and to seek God’s heart for our year ahead. We need to remember that God is not limited by our annual season changes as much as he operates in the seasons as they are set in motion in the Heavenly places. We see this emphasis of seasons all over scripture.

We read in Psalm 1:3, about how we will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bears fruit in its due season. As well as in John 15, where Jesus speaks about how fruit is grown and that in this seasonal harvest he prunes and cuts back those branches, which do bear fruit. The scripture tells us, He does this so that the tree may bear more fruit. And so we see how the cycle of seasons continues as He cuts back and grows us through the different seasons we are going through.

There Is Hope For Every Season

There is a promise and there is hope for every season we are going through. This can be as individuals, as groups, small and large churches, and nations alike. Our human calendar does not limit our Almighty God! The encouraging truth for you, in this new coming year, is that God is constant and He will always remain the same. Yesterday, today and forever, no matter what kind of season we find ourselves in our God is the same. (Hebrews 13:8) The truth spoken in the Word of God together with His everlasting promises are available to us at all times. Jesus died for our constant access to the true vine spoken about in John 15. The constant, never changing access to His Father’s unending resource, no matter what time of year it is.

Encouragement To You

As the new year approaches, I do encourage you to set new goals! Goals can be financial, physical, relational, spiritual or all of the above. Those are good and we need them a lot of the time, but I strongly urge you to continue to seek God for the season you are in with God. Every day is a fresh start with God. We don’t need a new year to make new goals or to reflect back and we don’t need the “word for the year” to know that God is in control and that He has a plan.

Whether your season is fresh as the springtime breeze by the sea, or it tastes a bit like sand in your salad, know that God is at work, and there is always hope in His name. What is God saying to you in this season and what promises do you need to hold onto? Ask, seek and knock, God will open the doors He has for you, He will provide what you are looking for in His son and He will answer you in His love for you.
