Mutuwa Namo, 15, of Danjo
village, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, was born with a cleft lip deformity.
He became an orphan, having lost his father at the age of 6 months. His
mother became blind when he was 5 years old after losing her sight mysteriously.
After the death of his father, Mutuwa and his mother were left in the
care of his uncle Mr. Yohanna Riri.
Mutuwa grew up with his uncle's children. While with his uncle, he
was considered an outcast because of his cleft lip deformity. As a result
of lack of love from the rest of the family evidenced by how he was
treated with contempt, he got very close to his mother who loved him
so much being her only surviving child.
He was always alone, even in school. Other children did not want to
associate with him. They were afraid of his bad face that was a result
of the cleft lip deformity.
Then CBN intervened to arrange surgery.
"I am very grateful," said Mutuwa after the surgery at Jos
University Teaching Hospital. "Thank you CBN. I never thought such
love would ever be shown to me.
"I used to be ashamed of myself because of my face and felt I
should not have been born to this world. I did not know where my help
would come from until today. Thank you for helping me."
The uncle, when interviewed, had this to say:
"Please sir, extend my heart-felt appreciation to CBN for helping
my brother's son. I have always felt bad about his condition, but there
was nothing I could do about it. He always looked depressed as a result
of his deformity.
"I am grateful to God and to you for your love for us, though
you did not know us personally. When someone who heard about your organization
told me the possibility of repairing this boy's lip, I quickly borrowed
money for our transport and headed to the doctor who promised that he
would contact CBN on my behalf. When he told me that CBN had OK'd my
request, I was speechless. After the surgery, as I looked at the boy's
face, I saw myself as the most loved of all people. His face has changed.
I wish his mother could see how he looks now. I will tell my people
back in the village about this love shown to us today. Once again, thank
you."
Thank you CBN for restoring Mutuwa's self esteem. This will stand as
a testimony of God's love amongst his people in the village.
