Operation Blessing visited Jos Prison on 18 December 2003. Jos Prison
is in Jos, the capital city of Plateau State. It is about three hours
from Abuja. The population of the prison is about 650 inmates. They are
made up of both male and female, young and old.
OB blessed the prison inmates with 175 blankets, medicated soap for
all the 650 inmates and some disinfectant solution to help disinfect
their living environment. Free medical treatment to the sick inmates
was also carried out after the day's programs. The remaining medical
supplies worth $200 were donated to the prison's clinic for continuous
treatment of prison inmates.
One of the prison officials DSP Jacob Atang expressed joy for the concern
shown by CBN for the welfare of the prisoners since the government can
hardly provide the basic needs of the inmates, especially food and health
care. He further prayed to God to bless the efforts of CBN International
as they reach out to the under privileged.
Though the prisoners could not freely comment on the visit, yet their
joy and gladness for the arrival of blankets and other supplies was
overwhelming. This was evident in the way they all trooped out and lined
up to be ministered to. As a result of the harsh cold weather of the
city, some were heard openly saying thank you CBN International for
bringing these very valuable things to us at this time.
Outreach
An outreach was also organized in the prison. About 350 inmates were
in attendance. Three films titled Muzika, AIDS Breaking the Silence
and Revolution were shown to inmates.
